Hey! I had a wonderful time at Comic Con! It was my first one and it was wonderful. I fully plan to attended next year as well. Which brings us to our problem. I and my group of friends hated our hotel.
We stayed at the Wyndham San Diego at Emerald Plaza.
Next year we want a hotel that is closer to the convention, either has free Internet or one price for all laptops in room (not where each of us has to pay $12 for each laptop in the room. We want $12 for the whole room or something like that), and if it has either continental breakfast or at least a mini-fridge and microwave in room that would be great. And maybe a nicer staff? The staff at the Wyndham was very rude to us.
Anyone have any suggestions? I thought if I start looking now while everything is fresh in people’s minds I might have found a nice place by next year.

Hiya: waves:
I'm new to this community and while I live in San Diego, I am having a bit of a problem with my costume. This year I'd like to go dressed as Lust from the anime FMA. Only she has an unusual tattoo on her chest. The rest of the costume would be relatively easy to get so that part I am not worried about. I'd rather not have the tattoo be a forever thing and was wondering if anyone could point me in thedirection of someone who either makes fake tattoos or does henna tattoos?
If not, thanks anyways!

| comicon hotel room? |
[09 Jul 2004|01:39pm] |
I've been looking all over lj looking for a community for the San Diego Comicon (a week and a half away!)
The original plans for housing have fallen through and now I'm looking for a place to crash/stay. Does anyone here have room for one or two extra? Or conversely, do you know of a message board for people looking for roommates?
THANK YOU!!!

Hey, everyone!
I'm desperately trying to find cheap airfare somewhere in the $230-$260 range or a little lower from Louisville to San Diego, and I'm having absolutely no luck this year. Can anyone offer me a suggestion as to where I can get some cheap tickets besides Orbitz?
Any help would be appreciated. I really want to go back to the Con again this year!
Thanks so much.

Hey, again! I've not posted in forever, but i'm still going to CC, so don't worry. haha. =) I'm just posting a reply about the Comic Con trips I've had and how I can help you guys have an awesome time. Being a Comic Con convention goer from Louisville since 2000, I think I can be of some minor help.
Since I was there last year anyway, I already bought my badge for the next year. If you guys plan on going next year, do buy a badge at the con! It's only $35, which is a whole 10 bucks cheaper.
Like I mentioned a few months back, my mom got us some reservations at I think Horton Plaza....forgot the name already, since we're trying a new hotel. Ramada St. James was under horrible management last year and the stay there was terrible. =/
Unfortunately, I have to buy a plane ticket on Continental because my mom bought tickets for a trip to CUE conference (tech conference in Palm Springs), (she works for JCPS) and they cancelled her trip the night before... so she can still use the ticket but it can only be for that certain airline, so that's going to take forever to find a cheap ticket on orbitz for that... blah. And I can't go on a separate plane due to overprotectiveness at 20 years old. Oh, well.
You guys are lucky to go to Preview Day...I never get to do that due to my mom's having to do this technology stuff in the middle of July and us having to leave at noon or some wacky time because she even has to work the day we leave... Argh. But we get there thursday night and I get to see the last three days which are the best anyway.
If you miss Sunday, don't sweat it. It's dead, and there's noone there hardly...and there's very few panels. Only good thing about it is that you can get pictures taken at the exhibit hall without standing in the crowds. Heck on Saturday last year--there were 70,000 people!!!!!!!! Man, that was hectic.
My mom volunteered for the first time last year to save some money, and she's enjoyed it a lot--it's like a behind the scenes experience, so she gets to see everything that goes on at the con, while I'm out messing around. Something you guys can think about.
There's lots of stuff to see. Gaslamp Quarter is amazing.....there's all kinds of things to see--there's a huge mall that's mostly outdoors--super awesome. There's lots of small shops, restaurants.... (there's a mcdonalds too if you guys wanna eat cheap, hehe). There's even an old spaghetti factory just like we have in downtown louisville. There's also ferry boats going to Del Coranado. I went there in 2002 and that was fun..there was a beach and people relaxing, the famous Del Coranado Hotel... it's absolutely beautiful.
Let me know if you guys have any questions. I'll be glad to help.

| Long-delayed thingy |
[02 Apr 2004|09:45am] |
(I meant to post this like a month ago. Erk.)
( Trip plan and cost estimate; this is pretty long. )
Now, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS ARE THINKING about these things: 1) How long do you want to stay in SD? 2) What else do you want to see there? 3) Do you want to volunteer? If so, as a group? (I'll be doing it at some point.) 4) Do you have any other objections to the plans I've posted?

Oh, crap. The two cheapest hotels I was going to stay at for Comic Con have been sold out already... If that doesn't just tick me off.
The hotels they even have left at all are pretty expensive, so you guys better save your pennies.

Hey, everyone!
I just received a post card from Comic Con International today in the mail that says that it is definate that registration will take place this upcoming Wednesday, January 14th.
If anyone else hasn't received it yet, here's some important information you will need to register for the rooms:
On or after January 14th, you can call the housing desk at:
1-877-55-COMIC (552-6642) or 212-532-1660.
You can also go to the Comic Con website. Usually every year they have a link you can just click on that will take you to a website that has a list of hotels with discounts. It's an easy step-by-step process.
I've never did it before, since I've stayed at the Ramada St. James the last 3 years, which is not part of the convention's list of hotels. However, this year I will be staying somewhere else because I was very unhappy with their service. Apparently they are now under different management or something. They gave my mom and I the smallest room, we had to ask for more cups and towels, the coffeepot we had didn't work, and on Saturday night the bar downstairs was playing loud music and we couldn't even sleep. So, to give some of you guys some advice, DON'T stay at this hotel. Stay at one of the Comic Con housing hotels instead. That's what I'm planning to do this year.
Good luck in the hotel search!

I got the free Comic Con "Update" magazine in the mail today. It's mostly kind of a review of last year's Con, but I assume they'll have more issues out with info about next summer. It also does have one piece of useful information: On January 14th, they'll post to their website a list of the official Con hotels.
I've talked to Stephen a little about this already, and obviously we want to get rooms as early as possible to make sure that we HAVE rooms, and that we get the best rates we can. I believe that "official" hotels offer a price break to Con attendees, but even with that price break, they're probably not going to be cheap.
So if we choose not to stay in an official hotel, the things we really need are nonsmoking rooms, cheap-but-not-skanky-cheap prices, and preferably free transportation to and from the convention center. We need to think about how we want to arrange the rooming situation, too. Part of that will depend on the final head count, but we'll probably be able to fit into two double-queen rooms (three at the most, if everybody decides to go). Then again, we might want to splurge a bit and get one room and one suite, so we'd have a place we could all fit into to chill and, you know, sit on couches.
Anybody have ideas about rooms vs. room / suite? Or info on San Diego hotels? I don't know if it'll be official or not, but this one does have shuttles to the con center and decent prices--it might make a good fallback.

Okay, CC actually runs from July 22-25; Preview Night, available only for pre-registered attendees (that's us), is July 21. I'm assuming everybody wants to stay for all five days--I'm sure there will be more than enough to do.
The question is, how much non-Con stuff do we want to do? The (very, very tentative) way I have it set up in my head (which Amtrak supports) is that we'd arrive in the afternoon on the 21st, check in and unpack, and head to Preview Night; we'd head out again around noon on the 26th, after we'd packed and checked out.
Since we can schedule our trains however we like, though, we could easily add a day before or after CC to unwind, chill, go to the Zoo or the beach, et cetera. Again, there's more than enough to do. Obviously this will bump up the cost, so I'd like to hear everybody's opinion and try to get some sort of consensus.
Also, while we're out there, I (and probably Maria, if she's able to come) will be taking a trip north, to meet some really cool people in San Francisco. Anybody who wants is welcome to come with me--tentatively again, I'd leave the morning of the 23rd and return the afternoon of the 24th, so I'd still get two and a half solid days of convention. If we stayed longer in California, obviously, it might be better to change those dates.
So: How many days do you want to stay? Are you interested in other things in San Diego, and how much can you afford timewise and moneywise? (I'm thinking it'll probably cost us each around $100 per extra day for food, lodging and tourist stuff.) Does anybody not want to stay the full five days? And is anybody else interested in the trip to SF?

I tried to think of appropriate things to put in the "interests" info thingy, but I ran dry pretty quick. Anybody have suggestions? Is there anyone or any group you're particularly interested in seeing?
